I was the fourth employee and part of the management team for Hangout, a 3D social network for teens. Hangout debuted at TechCrunch 50 in 2008 and won a MITX award for Best Use of Technology. I was responsible as product owner for the entire user experience as well as managing the design team, support, in-house 3D artists and outsourced 3D pipeline. My focus was on user centered design using weekly user studies, personas, and driving product prioritization via the needs and activities exhibited by teens on our site. Hangout leveraged the Unity Game Engine and integrated with Facebook, YouTube, AllPosters.com, and Seeqpod music to integrate social and rich media content with an immersive 3D space. We leveraged game mechanics to motivate behavior while providing a safe way for teens hang out online.
